One September afternoon, at the Petit Palace La Hermosa hotel in Málaga, a bridal editorial video was filmed by a small team of wedding professionals from the Costa del Sol. The art and creative direction belonged to José Correia Films, who also wrote the script and shot every frame, bringing years of work in advertising and television to weddings. Argia Tocados lent their jewellery for the shoot, the dress was by Mónica Loretti, and my part was the styling concept and its execution: the mood board, the wedding hair and the makeup.
On many editorials the concept is settled first and a model is cast to fit it. This time I chose to wait, because I wanted the concept to start from the person wearing it. Once I knew who she was, the starting point was obvious: she has curly hair. The usual move would have been to straighten her curly hair and work a classic wave, but what interested me was the opposite, to bring out her curl and let it lead, which is what I explain in the guide to naturally curly wedding hair.
That curl fitted what is coming in 2027. Polished finishes will stay, but a strong Grecian influence is arriving with them, and the mood board was built on that idea: a Greek goddess, with a high curly updo and the Argia choker at her neck.
I built the updo rough first, without defining the curl, because the structure had to be settled before anything else. Once the shape was in place, I defined the curl section by section with a very small curling tong, until the Greek hairstyle was finished with her hair exactly as it is.
The makeup was designed around very minimalist lines, healthy-looking skin and colours that melt into it, nothing too graphic or too heavy. Her eyes already have a beautifully defined shape of their own, so there was no need to draw them, only to bring them out without overdoing anything.
The hotel was chosen for its classic windows, in the Málaga architectural style, which framed the shots of the finished look beautifully, while the building opposite, with its lovely cornices, gave every other image its backdrop.
The afternoon of filming was great fun, and the work flowed the way it only does when every professional on the team knows exactly what they have to do.
You can see that care in the process, in the behind-the-scenes images, and in the result, which is the video.
